Accutane

Accutane has been manufactured by Roche USA Pharmaceuticals since the early 1980's to treat severe nodular acne. In 2001, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that new warning labels and consent forms would be required for Accutane use. These actions occurred because of serious side effects that have been linked to Accutane including:

• Birth Defects: If taken while pregnant, miscarriages or premature births can occur. It can also cause deformities in babies.
• Mental Problems and Suicide: Some patients have suffered from depression or have developed serious mental problems either while taking Accutane or after discontinuing use.
